Michael Kotlarchyk

Michael Kotlarchyk is a Professor in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), within the College of Science. He holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His primary research focuses on scattering techniques (neutron, X-ray, and laser-light), complex fluids, and theoretical frameworks combining nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with polarized neutron scattering to map macromolecular structures. He co-authored the textbook *Interactions of Photons and Neutrons with Matter* (2007).

His research group collaborates with George Thurston and Pratik Dholabhai to develop the NMR-PNS technique, integrating NMR spin manipulation with polarized neutron scattering for molecular-scale insights. Current projects include NSF-funded studies on hyperpolarized molecules and spin-modulated systems. He advises students such as Stella Van Ness (MS Physics) and Nicolas Sovare (BS Physics).

Key contributions include advancements in small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), neutron spin echo (NSE), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). His work bridges theoretical and experimental physics, with applications in materials science and biophysics.
