Michael Klemm

Prof. Dr. Michael Klemm serves as Professor of Media Studies at the Institute for Cultural Studies within the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz, a position held since December 2006. He has served multiple terms as Managing Director of the Institute for Cultural Studies (2007-2010, 2013-2015, 2017-2019, and continuously since 2023) and previously as Dean of the Faculty (2014-2017).

His educational background includes a Magister Artium in German Studies, Political Science, and Media Communication from the University of Trier, followed by doctoral completion in 1998. Prior academic appointments include research assistant roles at TU Chemnitz (1999-2005) and the University of Koblenz-Landau (2005-2006).

Prof. Klemm's research integrates Media Studies, Cultural Studies, and Linguistics through the lens of Digital Humanities, focusing on multimodality, political communication, cultural heritage digitization, and knowledge transfer. His work examines how digital technologies reshape cultural landscapes and political discourse, particularly through social media and audiovisual rhetoric.

His recent publications analyze evolving political communication strategies, with the 2022 Green Party social media study demonstrating multimodal storytelling techniques in electoral campaigns, while his 2020 Handbook of Political Rhetoric contributions explore mass media rhetoric and audiovisual political communication across historical contexts.

Major funded projects include:

He currently leads the Institute for Cultural Studies and the Interdisciplinary Center for Teaching's leadership team, while coordinating the German Cultural Science Society's Media Cultures section since 2015.
