Michael Hegarty

Michael Hegarty is a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Cyber Security at the School of Informatics and Cybersecurity, Technological University Dublin. He joined TU Dublin in 2012 and contributes to teaching, course development, university open days, international promotion, and ERASMUS coordination for his department.

His research focuses on Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, and Covert Communication, with practical applications evidenced by supervision of over 100 student projects. He delivers specialized modules in digital forensics while maintaining active involvement in cybersecurity education initiatives.

Mr. Hegarty has served as manager of Team Ireland for the European Cyber Security Challenge since 2017, leading Ireland's participation in this ENISA-organized EU competition for emerging cybersecurity talent. His role bridges academic instruction with real-world competition preparation, strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities through student development.
