Dr. Michael Cook is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics at King’s College London, specializing in artificial intelligence, computational creativity, and game design. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences and contributes to interdisciplinary research through the Research Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) and the Arts & Creativity Hub.
His research focuses on developing AI systems like ANGELINA and Puck, which design games autonomously, and organizing initiatives such as PROCJAM, a procedural generation jam. Key areas include generative AI, automated game design, and the intersection of AI with art and narrative storytelling.
Recent work explores environmental storytelling in games, systematic reviews of generative AI tools, and nasal drug delivery systems (collaborative pharmaceutical research). He has presented at CHI, DIS, and Foundations of Digital Games conferences, emphasizing human-centered approaches to AI-driven creativity.
Dr. Cook’s projects, funded by the EPSRC and Royal Academy of Engineering, investigate game preservation methodologies, procedural content evaluation frameworks, and collaborative tools like Danesh for analyzing generative systems. His work bridges technical innovation with cultural and societal impacts, advocating for ethical AI practices in creative domains.
