Michael B. Dwinell, PhD, is a Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He holds the Hanis-Stepka-Rettig Endowed Chair in Cancer Research and directs the Bobbie Nick Voss Laboratory for Colon Cancer Research. His research focuses on reprogramming the immune microenvironment to combat cancer metastasis, particularly in pancreatic cancer, using chemokine signaling as a target. Dr. Dwinell also oversees immunology curriculum development and teaches in graduate programs, earning recognition for teaching excellence. His leadership roles include chairing the NIH Tumor Microenvironment study section and completing executive leadership training.
**Education:** PhD in GI Pathophysiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1996).
- Research Interests: Cancer metastasis, tumor immune microenvironment, chemokine signaling, immunotherapy, and energy metabolism in cancer.
- Funding Sources: NIH grants, Bobby Nick Voss Foundation, MCW Cancer Center, and philanthropy.
- Lab Members: Includes Kathleen Boyle (Adjunct Assistant Professor), Donovan Drouillard (G3 Student), and others.
Dr. Dwinell’s work bridges basic science and clinical translation, with recent studies on mitochondria-targeted therapies and biased agonist signaling for cancer treatment. His lab has discovered novel roles for chemokines like CXCL12 in tumor progression and immune evasion.
