Medical College of WisconsinAbout
Adriano Marchese is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He serves as Program Director of the Biochemistry Graduate Program and Director of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences (IDP). Previously, he was a faculty member at Loyola University Chicago (2004–2016). His research focuses on G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, particularly the chemokine receptor CXCR4's role in cancer metastasis. Key areas include CXCR4 ubiquitination mechanisms and its contribution to cell migration via chemotaxis. He employs biochemical, genetic, and live-cell imaging techniques, including microfluidic devices for studying receptor trafficking and migration dynamics.
Education: PhD (1998), MSc (1994), and BS (1991) in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto, followed by postdoctoral training at Thomas Jefferson University.
Research interests emphasize understanding how CXCR4 signaling promotes metastasis through receptor trafficking and endocytic pathways. His lab explores ubiquitin ligase AIP4's role in CXCR4 degradation and signaling attenuation, as well as signaling pathways driving cancer cell migration. Techniques include proximity labeling, confocal microscopy, and biochemical assays.
Recent publications (2016–2023) address β-arrestin-mediated signaling, CXCR4 trafficking regulation, and ubiquitin-dependent mechanisms. Collaborative work involves studying CXCL12/HMGB1 heterocomplex signaling and mitochondrial-targeted cancer therapies.
