About
Mian Liu is Curators' Distinguished Professor and Chair of Geological Sciences at University of Missouri. His research integrates numerical modeling with geophysical data to study continental dynamics, earthquake cycles, and mantle processes. Liu has made fundamental contributions to understanding the growth of the Tibetan Plateau and mechanics of intraplate earthquakes.
His work examines lithospheric rheology, earthquake supercycles, and seismic hazard assessment in stable continental regions. Liu has led multiple NSF-funded projects on Asian tectonics and serves as editor for major geophysical journals.
