Mette Bunting is an Associate Professor of Education at the Department of Education, University of South-East Norway. She leads the strategic research area 'Oppvekst, Tilhørighet og Livsmestring' and coordinates the EU-funded Erasmus+ KAIII project COSI.ed (2021-2024), focusing on social inclusion in European education systems. Previously, she led the MaCE project recognized as 'Good Practice' by Erasmus+.
Her research focuses on youth marginalization, co-created education systems, and school dropout prevention. Notable projects include longitudinal studies like 'Ungdom, gjennomføring og skoleavbrudd i Telemark' and leadership of the interdisciplinary 'Oppvekst og utdanning' research group combining education, health, and social sciences perspectives.
Bunting holds a Doctorate in Pedagogics (2016) and has extensive teaching experience, including courses on differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, and educational leadership. She authored books on adaptive learning and teacher-student relationships.
Her professional trajectory includes roles as school inspector, educational counselor, and teacher in comprehensive and upper secondary schools. Current roles include leadership of the Education Department (2020-2023) and participation in the 'Sosial Bærekraft og Redusert Utenforskap' project funded by Sparebankstiftelsen.
