Prof. Merouan Mekouar holds dual roles as an Associate at the GIGA Institute for Middle East Studies (since 2021) and an Associate Professor at York University’s Department of Social Science (since 2018). He earned his BA from Université de Montréal, and MA/PhD from McGill University. His research focuses on transnational diffusion of policing doctrines between Europe and the Maghreb, and new authoritarian practices in the MENA region. He specializes in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, contributing to the GIGA’s Accountability and Participation research program. Contact: mmekouar@yorku.ca.
