Merouan Mekouar

Merouan Mekouar is Professor of Development Studies in the Department of Social Science at York University, with expertise in Middle East and North African politics. His research examines social movements, authoritarianism and democratization.

Education includes: PhD in Political Science from McGill University; MA from McGill; BA from Université de Montréal.

Current projects include a SSHRC-funded study on resistance to datafication and critical fieldwork methodologies for illiberal states. Regularly provides political analysis for international media including Radio-Canada, TRT World, and The Washington Post.

Professional service includes YUFA Recording-Secretary and Secretary-General for Rabat Social Science Institute.
