Meriem Lamghari

Meriem Lamghari is a full Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto, Portugal. She leads the NeuroSkeletal Circuits (NESK) research group at INEB/i3S, focusing on neuro-skeletal interactions, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. She received her Ph.D. in Osteoarticular Biology, Biomechanics and Biomaterials from Université Jussieu Paris 7 in 1999.

Her research bridges neuroscience and skeletal biology, using microfluidic platforms to study neuro-immune interactions in osteoarthritis, bone metastasis, and tissue regeneration. She has secured extensive national and international funding, including multiple Horizon 2020 and MSCA grants.

Recent publications highlight her work on neuro-immune interplay in joint pain, 4D bioprinting for cartilage repair, and metastasis-on-chip systems. Her lab develops innovative approaches to bone regeneration involving nanobiomaterials and sympathetic nervous system modulation.
