Meredith Johnson

Meredith Johnson is an active double bassist and educator affiliated with the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba, where he holds the title of MPS Instructor. His career spans performance and teaching, with a focus on orchestral and chamber music collaborations.

Research and Creative Works

Johnson's work emphasizes chamber music and commissioning new compositions for the double bass. He founded Bassitoba, an annual symposium for intensive bass training and performance, and has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and William Wolfram. His performance highlights include participation in the All Star Orchestra (which earned six Emmy Awards) and principal bassist roles with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (since 2004) and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra (2004-2013).
