Meredith Field

Meredith Field is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Alfred University’s Division of Social Sciences. Her work bridges medical sociology, rural sociology, and feminist theory to address healthcare equity and access. Previously, she served as an OPEN Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Cincinnati and earned dual PhDs in Rural Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Pennsylvania State University.

Her research focuses on the intersection of healthcare policy, rural communities, and reproductive justice, with a particular emphasis on maternal healthcare access in Pennsylvania and the impact of Ohio abortion regulations on clinical practice. She integrates feminist and rural sociological frameworks to critique systemic inequities.

Meredith’s publications highlight ethical dilemmas in reproductive healthcare, policy-driven barriers to medical education, and the sociopolitical dynamics of obstetric care. She has contributed to journals like Medical Education Online and Obstetrics & Gynecology, as well as public engagement through podcasts like Your Health Unlocked with the National Women’s Health Network.

Her teaching portfolio spans foundational and specialized courses, including Sociology of Health, Illness, and Dis/ability; Sociology of Race and Ethnicity; and Special Topics: Race and Reproduction. Prior to academia, she worked extensively in higher education, including international service-learning programs in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
