Meng Zhang

Meng (Peter) Zhang is an Associate Professor and Steve Hsu Keystone Research Scholar at Kansas State University's Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. (2014) and M.S. (2009) in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering, respectively. His career includes postdoctoral research at K-State, a visiting assistant professorship (2015–2016), and roles at Dalian University of Technology (2016–2023) before joining K-State as faculty in 2023.

Research: Zhang specializes in advanced manufacturing, with focuses on renewable energy systems, ultrasonic machining, and biomedical additive manufacturing. His work includes optimizing biomass preprocessing for biofuels, studying cellulose structure-sugar yield relationships, and developing 3D bioprinting techniques for tissue repair. His group pioneered methods to isolate particle size and crystallinity effects in biomass studies.

Awards & Grants: Recipient of the Steve Hsu Keystone Research Scholar title and three National Science Foundation awards. He has authored 18 journal articles, 25 conference papers, and a widely downloaded Springer textbook chapter on ultrasonic-assisted biomass pelleting.

Service: Reviewer for NSF, USDA, and over 20 journals. Active in proposal evaluation and academic leadership.
