Daniel Flippo

Dr. Daniel Flippo is an Assistant Professor in the Carl and Melinda Helwig Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Kansas State University. He joined K-State in 2011 with over a decade of industry experience at Cessna Aircraft, John Deere, and Tinker Air Force Base. His research focuses on integrating robotics and automation into sustainable agriculture to address global food production challenges. He holds a Ph.D. (2009) and M.S. (2004) in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. (1994) from Kansas State University.

His academic highlights include serving as PI/co-PI on multiple research projects, supervising four graduate students, and teaching courses in off-road vehicle design, mechatronics, and hydraulics. He is a board member of BotsKC, promoting STEM through robotics competitions. His work emphasizes sustainable practices like precision farming, hybrid power systems, and reduced soil compaction.

Flippo has been recognized as a Patrick Wilburn Keystone Research Scholar and has contributed to NASA-funded projects advancing rover wheel technology. His teaching spans mechanical engineering fundamentals to specialized topics in robotics and agricultural machinery.
