Menaka Raguparan

Dr. Menaka Raguparan is a feminist sociolegal scholar at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, focusing on the interplay between sex work, sex trafficking, and their conflation in criminal legal systems. Her research examines policing dynamics in the United States and Canada, particularly through pre-arrest diversion programs and victim-centered initiatives.

She is the founder and co-chair of the Collaborative Research Network 6 ("Sex, Work, Law and Society") at the Law and Society Association. Her recent publications address racialized sex workers, intersectional identities, and therapeutic jurisprudence in human trafficking courts.

Dr. Raguparan teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology, including CRM 105 (Introduction to Criminal Justice System), CRM/SOC 255 (Criminology), and CRM/SOC 506 (Qualitative Data Analysis). She also contributes to the Canadian Sex Workers' Rights Movement through qualitative studies on diversity and inclusivity.
