Melissa Wheeler

Melissa Wheeler, Ph.D., is a Distance Clinical Professor at Lamar University, specializing in advocacy for underrepresented college student groups. She holds a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education from The University of North Carolina Greensboro, an M.S. in Counselor Education from East Carolina University, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from East Carolina University.

Her career highlights include receiving the Excellence in Advising Award (2008) from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completing the National Career Development Association Leadership Academy (2017). She teaches in the M.Ed. in School Counseling and M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs, focusing on preparing counselors to advocate for marginalized populations.

Dr. Wheeler emphasizes practical resources for future counselors and has been recognized for her engaging webinar-style teaching. Beyond academia, she has competitively participated in the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship tournament in Las Vegas twice.
