About
Mayank Mehta is a Professor of Physics And Astronomy, Neurobiology, and Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He holds a joint appointment in the College of Letters and Science. His research focuses on understanding neural mechanisms underlying spatial cognition, memory formation, and sensory integration, particularly in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex. Key areas include the role of neural oscillations, synaptic plasticity, and multisensory inputs in spatial behavior and navigation.
Education & Research Interests:
- Investigating hippocampal function in spatial navigation
- Neural dynamics during up-down states and theta rhythms
- Impact of virtual environments on spatial selectivity
Publications: Over 40 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on persistent neural activity in entorhinal cortex, multisensory control of behavior, and computational models of neural networks. Recent work explores hippocampal responses to visual cues and light stimuli.
Grants & Funding:
- Co-PI for NIH U01MH115746 (Cross-modal integration in ASD)
- PI for NIH R01MH092925 (Persistent activity in entorhinal cortex)
Labs & Teams: Leads interdisciplinary research groups at UCLA exploring systems neuroscience, collaborating with experts in computational biology and neurophysiology.
