Maya Haviland is Translational Fellow and Senior Lecturer in Museum Anthropology at the Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies, Research School of Humanities and the Arts, Australian National University. She leads the Scaffolding Cultural Co-Creativity project and specializes in community-led research with Indigenous communities, participatory action research, and co-creative practice.
Research interests focus on:
- Dynamics of cultural collaboration and co-creation
- Creative innovation with traditional knowledge
- Cultural resurgence through collaborative arts
- Visual anthropology and documentary methods
Recent publications explore co-creative methodologies across diverse cultural contexts including Vanuatu and Australian Indigenous communities. Her work examines institutional practices, cultural governance, and community-engaged research through interdisciplinary approaches.

- World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion Graduate Student Award (2018)
She coordinates projects such as the Kimberley Caring for Culture Plan and Following the Trade Routes initiative. Haviland co-produced the Collaboratory podcast and has facilitated collaborative art projects internationally.
