About
Maxence Menthon is a Researcher at the Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Earth and Climate department. His work bridges glaciology and climate modeling.
- PhD research on Antarctic ice sheet-climate interactions during the Last Interglacial
- Expertise in GRISLI and iLOVECLIM ice-climate models
- Teaching experience in Statistics and Paleogeography
Maxence holds a Master’s in Climate Sciences from Université de Lyon (2020), preceded by a Bachelor’s in Energy Engineering (Dalarna University, 2018) and a Bachelor’s in Applied Physics (Université Savoie Mont Blanc, 2017). His research explores ice sheet dynamics, paleoclimatology, and climate modeling, with a recent focus on Antarctic contributions to historical sea-level rise and future projections. He contributes to the Journal of Glaciology (2025) with a study questioning the glaciological community’s trajectory towards 2073, emphasizing equality and diversity in science. Currently, no scientific awards are documented. His work aligns with UN SDG targets for climate action and life below water, particularly through ice sheet and sea-level research.
In his role, Maxence co-supervised five bachelor’s theses and co-developed teaching modules in data analysis and fieldwork. He is involved in the project The Antarctic Ice Sheet during the Last Interglacial: what does it really tell us about the ice sheet’s future?, which ran from 2020 to 2025, using Earth system models to analyze deglaciation and interglacial climate scenarios.
