About
Didier Roche is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Earth Sciences. He holds a secondary affiliation with the Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris as a Medewerker since 2007.
His research focuses on climate modeling, ice sheet dynamics, and paleoclimatology, with contributions to understanding glacial cycles, deglaciation processes, and volcanic impacts on historical climates. Notable areas include Antarctic ice sheet behavior and Last Interglacial climate conditions.
Roche teaches courses such as Climate Dynamics and Processes and Climate Modelling. He has supervised 5 PhD theses and contributed to over 20 datasets, including climate-ice sheet model outputs and paleoceanographic analyses.
His recent work emphasizes coupled climate-ice sheet models, Arctic sea-ice dynamics, and the societal impacts of volcanic eruptions during the Holocene. Collaborations span international research networks addressing global climate change challenges linked to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
