Dr. Mavis Morton is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Guelph. She holds a PhD in Sociology from York University (1996) and leads research in two primary domains: social/criminal justice policy (encompassing gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, femicide, and restorative justice) and scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL) with emphasis on community-engaged pedagogy (CETL). She actively accepts graduate students for projects in critical community-engaged scholarship and violence against women.
Her research examines systemic responses to violence, including analyses of family law courts, housing insecurity linked to abuse, and media representations of violence. Pedagogically, she develops frameworks for critical community engagement and reflective teaching practices.

Graduate Supervision: Dr. Morton mentors six students in MA and PhD programs, focusing on community justice, policy analysis, and violence research. Her lab emphasizes collaborative, action-oriented scholarship with community partners.
