Maura Soekijad

Maura Soekijad is an Associate Professor at the KIN Center for Digital Innovation within the School of Business and Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds dual affiliations with the Amsterdam Business Research Institute (ABRI) and the Knowledge, Information and Innovation research group. Her work focuses on qualitative ethnographic studies addressing the future of work, online communities, identity dynamics in organizational change, and healthcare technology. She coordinates the MSc programme in Digital Business & Innovation and teaches courses on digital transformation, knowledge management, and qualitative research methods.

Her research explores how digital technologies reshape professional practices, particularly in healthcare and service industries, with recent projects funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Notable studies include investigations into secure messaging in outpatient care, human-robot interaction in restaurant settings, and identity work during organizational change. She has supervised multiple PhD candidates examining topics like robotics in the wild, digital innovation collaboration, and knowledge management for development.

Dr. Soekijad’s publications appear in top journals such as Journal of Management Studies, MIS Quarterly, and Organization Studies. She actively contributes to academic discourse through conference presentations, including recent talks on hybrid work dynamics and robotic embodiment. Her teaching responsibilities include program leadership roles and thesis supervision across undergraduate and graduate levels. Current research initiatives address hybrid working models at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, emphasizing synthetic work environments that transcend traditional flex/remote paradigms.
