Matthew Stoddard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). He joined UTSC in 2021 after teaching in the Department of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga since 2015. His work bridges fine-grained textual analysis with theoretical reflection, focusing on cinema and media studies.

- Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Moving Image Studies from the University of Minnesota
Research Interests: His research explores the interrelationship between aesthetics and politics in mainstream North American cinema and radical, oppositional cinema globally. He has taught courses on topics such as Stanley Kubrick, horror cinema, film theory, Canadian cinema, and critiques of Hollywood (anti-Hollywood), spanning diverse eras and movements in film history.
