Matthew Harris

Matthew Harris is the Boyd Distinguished Professor of Health Economics at the University of Tennessee, affiliated with the Boyd Center for Business & Economic Research and the Department of Economics in the Haslam College of Business. He holds the Michael Stahl PEMBA Faculty Research Fellowship (2017-2022-2023) and serves as the SEC Faculty Athletics Representative. His research focuses on labor, public, and health economics, with particular attention to policy impacts on healthcare systems, opioid-related issues, and workforce dynamics.

Grants & Advising: Leads the Tennessee population forecasting project for the State Advisory Council. Active in policy analysis related to TennCare, Medicaid expansion, and health system reforms. Chairs the Annual Health Econometrics Workshop.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Boyd Center for Business & Economic Research and public health institutions to model policy outcomes and economic impacts of healthcare interventions.
