Steven J. Stack

Steven J. Stack, MD, MBA, is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Haslam College of Business, where he lectures on healthcare policy and advocacy in the Physician Executive MBA (PEMBA) program. He currently serves as Commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Public Health and Chief Medical Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, focusing on public health transformation, workforce development, and health equity. With over 19 years as a board-certified emergency physician, he has held leadership roles in national organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO).

• Education: MBA (University of Tennessee, 2017); MD and Bachelors (The Ohio State University).

His research and professional interests include public health infrastructure, health policy implementation, emergency medical care, and health information technology. He has advocated for affordable healthcare access and led federal and state advisory committees.

• Scientific Awards: AMA President (youngest since 1854), ASTHO President, eHealth Initiative Secretary, and AMA Board of Trustees member.
