University of Texas at TylerAbout
Dr. Matthew Greenwold is an Assistant Professor of Biology at The University of Texas at Tyler. His research focuses on genomics, molecular evolution, phylogenetics, and conservation ecology, with particular emphasis on developing non-invasive eDNA methods for monitoring species of conservation concern. He leads the Greenwold Lab, which addresses critical questions in biodiversity preservation through innovative approaches like eDNA sampling strategies for rare macroinvertebrates, avian Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) development for wetlands, and endangered species monitoring.
Current funded projects include Texas Parks and Wildlife-funded surveys for Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) species, USDA-funded wetland monitoring, and collaborations on Houston toad and Procambarus crayfish conservation. His work bridges field research with advanced molecular techniques, emphasizing practical applications for conservation management. For more details, visit greenwoldlab.com.
Dr. Greenwold’s expertise spans avian genomics, ant-fungus symbiosis, and cryptophyte algae evolution. He has contributed to studies on epidermal differentiation in birds, microbial community dynamics in ants, and evolutionary adaptations in algal photosystems. His research integrates ecological, genetic, and genomic approaches to address both basic and applied questions in conservation biology.
