Matthew Gaudet is Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Ethics Programs and Initiatives at Santa Clara University's School of Engineering, where he also chairs the General Engineering Department. He holds a PhD in Ethics and Social Theory from Graduate Theological Union/UC Berkeley, an M.A. in Theology from Loyola Marymount University, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
Research bridges moral theology and technology ethics, focusing on AI ethics, autonomous weapons systems, university ethics, and pedagogical approaches. Authored/co-authored books on justice theories and AI ethics. Recipient of teaching awards from University of San Francisco (2015, 2018).
Service includes Faculty Scholar role in Markkula Center for Applied Ethics and editorial leadership for the Journal of Moral Theology. Teaches engineering ethics courses exploring technology's societal impacts.
