Matthew Fowler

Matthew Fowler is a part-time Lecturer in the Department of American Indian Studies and Faculty Scholar at the Native Resource Center, San Diego State University (SDSU). He holds an A.A. from Harford Community College, a B.A. in Literature and Writing Studies from California State University San Marcos, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from SDSU.

His research focuses on Indigeneity, survivance, environmentalism, radicalism, and transnational studies, alongside queer theory and abolition. His work critiques sociopolitical structures through a lens informed by his Indigenous P’urhépecha, Chichimeca, and Irish heritage.

Publications appear in PRISM International, Quarterly West, Sycamore Review, The Los Angeles Review, and others. He is currently developing a full-length manuscript.

Awarded the Sarah B. Marsh-Rebelo Award, his scholarly contributions blend creative writing with critical theory. Beyond academia, he engages in analog photography, skateboarding, and outdoor activities.
