Matthew Cornish

Matthew Cornish is Associate Professor of Theater History in the Interdisciplinary Arts department at Ohio University's Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts. He also serves as Director of Studies in the Honors Tutorial College for Theater programs. His academic work bridges performance studies, philosophy, and German studies.

Research Interests: His scholarship focuses on German theater after 1989, postdramatic and postmigrant theater, dramaturgy, scenography, and the intersections of ethics and aesthetics in performance. He explores how theater reflects and shapes national identity, cultural memory, and philosophical inquiry.

The recent publications and ongoing research demonstrate a sustained engagement with contemporary European performance, particularly German-speaking contexts, while also contributing to broader discourses in theater theory and criticism. His work appears in top journals such as Theatre Journal, Modern Drama, and TDR, as well as public intellectual venues like n+1 and Public Books.
