Matthew Allen

Matthew Allen is a Professor of International Business and Lead of the International Business Knowledge Platform at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Previously, he held academic roles at Bangor University, Essex Business School, and Alliance Manchester Business School. His research focuses on multinational enterprises' strategies, corporate governance, and human resource management practices, with a particular interest in how institutional contexts shape organizational behavior globally. He has published in top journals including the Journal of International Business Studies and International Journal of Human Resource Management.

Dr. Allen's current research includes a DANIDA-funded project promoting circular economy practices in Bangladesh's garment industry. He emphasizes the interplay between innovation capabilities, HRM, and strategic decisions in multinational firms. His work spans comparative capitalism frameworks and global value chain dynamics, with grants from DANIDA, EPSRC, and UKRI.

He actively supervises doctoral students exploring multinational enterprise strategies, innovation, and HRM practices. His research bridges theoretical advancements in international business with practical implications for firm competitiveness and global sustainability challenges.
