About
Matteo Beccaria is a Full Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Mathematics and Physics "Ennio De Giorgi" at the University of Salento (Unisalento) in Lecce, Italy. He has been with the university since 1997, progressing from Researcher to Associate Professor in 2002, and ultimately to Full Professor in 2020.
His educational background includes a Degree in Physics from the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa in 1991, followed by a PhD in Physics from the University of Pisa in 1996.
Professor Beccaria specializes in Theoretical Physics of fundamental interactions, with particular expertise in String theory and models of quantum gravity and Critical phenomena in conformal theory and complex systems. His research focuses on the analysis of quantum gravitational effects within string theory frameworks and the holographic correspondence between gravitational theories on Anti de Sitter spaces and conformal theories. He has made significant contributions to understanding gauge theories, strings, and supergravity through his role as local coordinator of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics Scientific Initiative GSS.
With approximately 300 scientific publications in international journals and over 6,000 citations, Professor Beccaria has established himself as a prominent researcher in theoretical physics. His work has earned him a Hirsch index of 42 according to Google Scholar.
Professor Beccaria has held numerous management positions at Unisalento, including service on the Academic Senate and Budget Commission. He has coordinated research activities in Theoretical Physics funded by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics in Lecce from 2007 to 2015 and currently serves as the local coordinator of the Scientific Initiative GSS "Gauge Theories, Strings, Supergravity."
He has participated in numerous research grants funded by MIUR, EU, and other international research institutions. Professor Beccaria also serves as a referee for research project evaluations for the Irish Science Foundation, the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique - FNRS, and the Czech Academy of Sciences. He has been a member of the Italian Physical Society (SIF) since 2010.
