Matt Trau

Matt Trau is Professor and ARC Laureate Fellow at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland. His cross-disciplinary research develops nano-diagnostics for early cancer detection, combining chemistry, nanotechnology, and molecular biology.

Research highlights include:

• Nanopatch™ technology for skin-based diagnostic delivery
• Electrochemical/Raman dual biosensors for cancer biomarker profiling
• Epigenetic-based detection of HPV-associated cancers

His team's publication record includes high-impact work on extracellular vesicle phenotyping for lung cancer diagnosis and multiplexed SERS microassays for virus detection.

Major grants include $22M+ from NBCF and Queensland Government for personalized medicine initiatives. Industry collaborations include Merck, Beckman Coulter, and Nanomics BioSystems (spin-off from his lab).
