Matt Samson is a Professor of Anthropology and Latin American Studies at Davidson College. He is affiliated with the departments of Anthropology, Latin American Studies, and Environmental Studies.

His research focuses on indigenous culture and religious transformation in Latin America, particularly among the Maya in Guatemala. He also investigates environmental sustainability, development, human rights, and social justice in Mesoamerica and the southern United States. Additional interests include communal identity dynamics in the Mexico-U.S. border region.
