Matt Rogers

Matt Rogers is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick, specializing in critical teacher education, participatory filmmaking pedagogies, and media studies. As a former public school teacher and award-winning filmmaker, he integrates regional knowledge and creative practice into academic research. Current projects include youth-centered participatory documentary initiatives and a feature film Entropic supported by Telefilm Canada.

• Teaching: Graduate courses in participatory visual research, undergraduate film theory/production, and social studies pedagogy
• Research: Focus on participatory video methods, critical qualitative inquiry, and social justice in education

His scholarly work examines tensions in participatory video pedagogies, particularly regarding gender and heterosexist discourses. Films produced with Frictive Pictures Inc. have screened at international festivals, earning cinematography and direction awards. Recent research grants include Telefilm Canada funding and provincial support for cyber-violence prevention projects.
