About
Dr. Matt Ikari is a Junior Research Group Leader at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. His research focuses on fault mechanics, earthquake generation, and subduction zone processes, supported by a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (PREDATORS project). His group investigates fault slip behavior using laboratory deformation experiments and natural samples from international expeditions.
Key Research Interests:
- Fault mechanics and frictional properties
- Earthquake generation mechanisms
- Subduction zone dynamics
- Slow earthquakes and submarine landslides
Expeditions: IODP Expedition 343 (Japan Trench, 2012), RV Sonne Expedition SO222 (Nankai Trough, 2012), and IODP Expedition 322 (Nankai Trough, 2009).
Awards: ERC Starting Grant for PREDATORS project.
Labs/Teams: Experimental Geomechanics group at MARUM, collaborating with global institutions like IODP and ICDP.
