Matt Hare

Matt Hare serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Music at the University of California, Irvine, specializing in classical double bass performance within the Instrumental Performance - Strings division. He concurrently holds principal bass positions with the Mozart Classical Orchestra and Long Beach Ballet, while directing the non-profit organization Bass Forward to advance bass education across Southern California.

Hare's professional focus centers on classical double bass performance, original composition for the instrument, and innovative music education methodologies. His Pandemic-era creative output featured solo recitals of self-composed works in Los Angeles, and he actively mentors UCI's bass studio while conducting workshops at regional high schools to cultivate emerging string talent.

Through Bass Forward, Hare organizes community bass events and implemented critical instrument loan programs during lockdowns. His current projects include premiering an orchestration of Hayk Arsenyan's 'Stratum' for double bass and piano with Armenia's National Chamber Orchestra, building upon mentorship from renowned musicians including Mark Jelinek, David Murray, Diana Gannett, and Volkan Orhon.
