Matilde Tessitori

Matilde Tessitori is an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A) within the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Catania. With a career spanning over two decades, she has held roles such as Assistant Professor (2006–2019) and Senior/Associate Editor for journals like Plant Health Progress and European Journal of Plant Pathology. Her expertise lies in plant virology, focusing on viroids, phytoplasmas, and virus transmission via insect vectors.

• Education: MSc in Plant Science (1991, summa cum laude), PhD in Plant Pathology (1997), both from the University of Catania.

Her research emphasizes molecular characterization of plant pathogens, with applications in sustainable crop management. She contributes to EU regulatory bodies like EFSA and REA and leads technical initiatives on emerging plant diseases such as Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) and Flavescence dorée in vineyards.
