Mathilde Roger

Dr. Mathilde Roger is an Associate Professor (Education) and Digital Learning Coordinator in Durham University’s Department of Biosciences (Faculty of Science). She joined in 2014 as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, transitioning to teaching roles, including full-time Teaching Fellow (2018), Assistant Professor (Teaching) (2020), and current Associate Professor (2022). Since 2024, she holds a part-time secondment at the Durham Center for Academic Development (DCAD), supporting HEA Fellowships.

Education & Background:

• PhD in Animal Cellular Biology (France), focusing on stem cell therapy, nanoparticles, and cancer biology.
• Postdoctoral work under Prof. Stefan Przyborski, specializing in Skin Tissue Engineering and laboratory management.

Teaching & Research Interests:

• Teaching areas: Cell Biology, Stem Cells, Tissue Engineering, Immunology, Genetics, and Pathology.
• Scholarship focus: Digital tools for inclusive teaching, self-regulated learning, and feedback strategies. Leads the Feedback Special Interest Group (SIG) and develops student-led e-journals for feedback reflection.

Grants & Leadership:

• Secured multiple DCAD grants for digital assessment, accessibility, and AI in education.
• Leads the Digital Platform workstream for Graduate Attribute Implementation and chairs Education Track Academic Development Network (ETADN) steering group.
• Editor-in-Chief of the Enhancing Teaching and Learning in Higher Education journal, promoting scholarly teaching practices.

Awards:

• Senior Fellowship of HEA (2022), Education Laboratory Fellowship (2022), and Durham’s Exceptional Contribution Teaching Award (2021).
