About
Dr. María Luisa Bonet Piña is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She is a senior researcher in the Nutrigenomics, Biomarkers and Risk Assessment (NuBE) group and serves as Scientific Secretary of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology (LBNB). She is affiliated with the Biomedical Research Network Center for the Pathophysiology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBERobn) and the Balearic Islands Health Research Institute (IdISBa).
- Role: Professor
- Research Focus: Molecular nutrition, nutrigenomics, and obesity pathophysiology
- Affiliations: NuBE group, LBNB, CIBERobn, IdISBa
Her research investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of body weight and adiposity control, emphasizing interactions with dietary nutrients (particularly carotenoids and vitamins) and the role of cell cycle regulatory proteins in adipocyte biology. She also explores functional nutrition for obesity management and diet-health relationships.
As an academic leader, she teaches core courses in molecular nutrition, energy homeostasis, and nutrigenomics at both undergraduate (Biochemistry Bachelor's) and graduate levels (Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition Master's). Her expertise spans molecular biology, nutritional science, and metabolic regulation.
- Key Teaching: Macromolecular Biosynthesis, Energy Homeostasis, Nutrigenomics Research Seminars
- Research Contributions: Diet-gene interactions, functional nutrition, adipocyte biology
