María Gowland

María Gowland is a Professor at the National University of Tierra del Fuego and Academic Director of SIT Study Abroad's Argentina program. Holding a PhD in biological sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, her research focuses on fishery biology, socio-environmental conflicts, and stakeholder perspectives in natural resource management. She maintains fieldwork connections with Tierra del Fuego's fishing sector and studies human-environment interactions in Patagonia.

Since 2012, she has taught mathematics, ecology, conservation science, and supervised student internships. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges marine biology with community engagement strategies.
