Mary Short, Ph.D., is the Department Chair of Psychological and Behavioral Health Sciences and a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s College of Human Sciences and Humanities. Previously, she served as Interim Associate Dean for the college from June 2022 to January 2023.

Dr. Short’s research focuses on pediatric health psychology, particularly the promotion of health behaviors in adolescents and young adults. She integrates theories of health behavior (e.g., vaccinations, sexual risk, mental health) and examines parental influences on health decision-making. Her clinical expertise includes behavioral parent training interventions for child disruptive behaviors and cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety/mood disorders in youth.
Dr. Short leads an active research lab, mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students in publishing and presenting their work. She teaches courses in Pediatric Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychopathology, and Group Psychotherapy.
