Clinical Associate Professor Mary Sharp is the Acting Medical Co-Director of Neonatology at the Child and Adolescent Health Service (WA Health) and Co-Director of the UWA Centre for Human Lactation Research and Translation. She holds an honorary research position at The Kids Research Institute Australia. Her roles include leading the Neonatology Service across King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), PCH-3B, and NESTWA.
Education: MB BS (1992) from The University of Western Australia; FRACP (2001); M Med Sci (2003).
Research Interests: Focused on long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants, cerebral palsy prevention, circadian rhythms in neonates, and family-integrated care. Active in translating research into clinical practice, such as implementing Family Integrated Care in neonatal units (2017).
Grants & Projects:
- Circa Diem WA Follow-Up Study (2020–2023): Investigating circadian rhythm interventions for preterm infants.
- Prediction of in-flight hypoxia in preterm infants (2020–2022).
Labs/Teams: Leads the Centre for Human Lactation Research and Translation and chairs the Family Integrated Care committee. Engaged with national/international networks like the Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials network and ANZNN Follow-up subcommittee.
