Mary Kitchener

Dr. Mary Kitchener SFHEA is a Principal Lecturer for Education and Student Experience at Oxford Brookes University's School of Education. She leads the Advance HE accredited EXPLORE Taught provision, serving as Programme Leader for the Professional/Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory) and Postgraduate Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education. Her educational background includes an EdD in academic transitions, PGCE (Post-compulsory), MA in Education, and BSc in Psychology with Business Psychology.

Her research examines professional-to-academic career transitions, gender-sensitive curriculum design, and inclusive education frameworks. She has developed practical resources like the 'Handbook for Creating a Gender-Sensitive Curriculum' and investigates conversational pedagogical approaches to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Kitchener secured significant grants including a £60k LSIS project developing blended STEM pedagogy programmes. She received multiple teaching excellence awards and serves as Advance HE Senior Fellow, Aurora Mentor, and doctoral examiner. She actively contributes to educational networks including the Accredited Provision Leaders Network and SiPHe.
