Mary Hilson is a Professor at the Department of History and Classical Studies, Aarhus University. Previously, she held a position at University College London (UCL) until 2015. Her research focuses on modern social, political, and cultural history, particularly in the Nordic region. Current projects include a study on food and farming history from an animal perspective (c.1860-1930) and transnational Nordic imagery. She collaborates with the Nordic research hub ReNEW (2018-2024), exploring Norden's evolving global role.
- Teaching: 'Introduction to Danish History' (2024) and 'Food and Consumption' (2024).
- Key projects: LUMEN (2015-2025), NAU (2019-2023), and Nordic Model Studies (2018-2023).
Research interests span Nordic co-operative movements, animal history, and Denmark/Scandinavia's socio-political dynamics. She actively participates in conferences and workshops, including recent lectures on 'Pig Histories' and Nordic agricultural studies.
