Anne-Marie Mai is a Professor of Nordic Literature at the University of Southern Denmark since 1999. She is affiliated with the Literary & Theatrical Studies and History & Archaeology sections of the Danish Academy for Language and Literature, and her work spans women's literature, Scandinavian literary historiography, and cultural sociology.

Scientific awards include the Karen Blixen Special Honour Award (2022), Søren Gyldendal Award (2018), and the Danish Research Councils’ Communication Prize (2014). She has served as General Secretary of the International Society for 18th Century Studies (2010–2015) and chaired the Danish Society for 18th Century Studies (1993–2000).
