About
Martin Walt is a Consulting Professor at Stanford University (1986–present). Previously, he worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (1953–1956) and Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory (1956–1992). His research focuses on space plasma physics, geomagnetically trapped radiation, auroras, and energetic particles in planetary magnetospheres.
- Education:
- B.S., Physics, California Institute of Technology (1950)
- M.S., Physics, University of Wisconsin (1951)
- Ph.D., Physics, University of Wisconsin (1953)
He has contributed to major experiments, including the Photometric Ionospheric X-ray Imaging Experiment and the Spectrometer for Energetic Particles on NASA’s International Solar Terrestrial Physics Mission. With over 80 scientific publications and two authored books, his work bridges theoretical and observational space physics.
- Awards:
- Fellow of the American Geophysical Union
- Fellow of the American Physical Society
As a co-investigator on high-profile missions, he has advanced understanding of charged particles in Earth’s magnetosphere and beyond.
