Martin Kemp

Martin Kemp FBA is a Professor of Fine Arts at the University of St Andrews. Previously, he served as the Slade Professor at the University of Cambridge's Department of History of Art from 1987 to 1988. His research focuses on art history, with a particular emphasis on Renaissance art, visual culture, and modern/contemporary art practices. He has been actively involved in interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the Cambridge Courtauld Russian Art Centre (CCRAC), collaborating with institutions like the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.

His scholarly contributions span global art studies, and he has engaged in organizing international conferences on topics like the People’s Art School and Unovis in Vitebsk. Kemp’s work bridges historical and contemporary art discourse, reflecting his expertise in fine arts and visual studies. He holds the prestigious title of Fellow of the British Academy (FBA).
