Prof. Dr. Martin Beck holds a dual professorship in International Relations/Security Studies at the School of Social Sciences, University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH), and in Politics of the Middle East at Philipps-University Marburg. He is also affiliated with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) as an Associate of the GIGA Institute. His academic career spans institutions across Europe, the US, and the Middle East, with research focusing on regional power dynamics, oil politics, and securitization in the Middle East.
Education: PhD in Social Sciences (1994) and Habilitation in Political Science (2001) from Tübingen University, Germany. His expertise includes Arab-Israeli conflict analysis, Gulf Cooperation Council state dynamics, and post-Arab Spring political transformations.
Research Interests: International political economy, regional power competition, rentier state theory, oil politics, and migration policies. Key areas include GCC policy responses to the 2014 oil price crash and evolving Middle Eastern security architectures.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed works, including landmark studies on Gulf adjustment policies (2021) and regional security dynamics post-Arab Uprisings. Active in policy dialogues through GIGA's Peace and Security program.
