Martin August Fuchsberger

Martin August Fuchsberger is a Senior Lecturer for Wind Orchestra Conducting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2011 and holds a Senior Artist role in Conducting at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt. He leads the Master's program in Wind Orchestra Conducting and co-founded a part-time university course in this field. As a conductor, he directs the GMPU Academy Orchestra (founded 2023) and collaborates with orchestras globally, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra. He formerly served as Kurkapellmeister in Bad Reichenhall (2009–2018) and remains closely associated with the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra.

Education: Studied orchestral conducting, choral conducting, singing, and church music at the Vienna University of Music and MUK, completing a BA (2005) and MA (2008). Early training included violin, voice, and horn studies with the Salzburg Cathedral Boys' Choir and institutions like the Salzburg Music High School.

Research focuses on wind band and orchestral conducting pedagogy, performance practices, and interdisciplinary collaborations. His work bridges classical and contemporary music, emphasizing arrangership and ensemble leadership. Recent projects include cross-cultural performances in South Africa, Lebanon, and South Korea.

Awards: Notable recognition includes the Erwin-Ortner Prize and special distinctions for choral conducting. Active as a juror for the Austrian Wind Music Association (ÖBV) and guest lecturer at Salzburg College.

Advising/Grants: Mentor for conducting students in Salzburg and Klagenfurt programs. Founded the Michael Haydn Consort and collaborated with artist Lea Anders on multimedia projects like Emotionen in der Wirtschaft and Der Stern in mir. Leadership roles include artistic direction of the Salzburg University Orchestra (2009–2016) and Sinfonietta St. Johann (2017–2023).

Labs/Teams: Leads the Gustav Mahler Private University Symphony Orchestra and co-founded the GMPU Academy Orchestra. Engaged with ensembles such as the Landesblasorchester Salzburg and Wiener Philharmoniker's brass ensemble. Maintains ties with the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra through guest conducting engagements.
